About Your Visit - Young Child

YOUNG CHILD VISIT

A visit to our clinic by a four to eight year old child.

You visited your doctor and he wanted you to see our doctors at The Children's Heart Clinic. All of our doctors are heart specialists just for kids.

It is important to bring:

  • Insurance card
  • Physician's name , address and phone number.
  • Social Security numbers.
  • Emergency contact name and number.

We want you to know that nothing will hurt! We do not give shots here. We do a couple of tests and the doctor will examine you by listening to your heart with his stethoscope. We try to make your visit with us fun.

Do you want to know about the tests we do?

The doctor may want to put a picture of your heartbeats on paper. this is called an EKG. You can sit on mom or dad's lap or they can sit beside you. We put blue stickers on your arms, legs and chest. They have gel on them. The clips go on the stickers. This will give us the picture of your heartbeat on our computer and we can print it out for the doctor. This test only takes about 5 minutes. A note to parents: Please do not have your child put on lotion before their visit. The EKG stickers will not stick well.

You may also need an X-ray. This is a picture taken of your chest with a special camera. You will either sit on a chair or stand up. This test takes about 5 minutes. Mom and dad will wait in the exam room for you.

The doctor may also want a test called an echo or echocardiogram. This shows your heart on the TV screen. You get to pick out a video (or bring one from home) to watch while this test is done. You get to lay down on a bed for this test. The echo technician puts warm gel on your chest and makes a "movie" of your heart. The room will be dark, light a movie theater, and mom and dad will be with you.

Then doctor will come to examine you. He might show you your x-ray picture. He will talk to your mom and dad and answer any of your questions. Do not worry about shots here, we don't have any!

A letter will be sent to your primary doctor after you are seen here so they know the results of this visit.
