About Your Visit - Adolescent

PRE-ADOLESCENT to ADOLESCENT

A visit to our clinic for a nine year old to teenager.

In this clinic, we have eight doctors who specialize in kid's hearts.
You may have been sent here to evaluate a murmur, chest pain, fast heart rates, fainting or for familial reasons.

Tests the doctor might order before you see them are an Ekg, x-ray, and/or echocardiogram.

An ECG or electrocardiogram is a computer picture of your heartbeat. You have to lay on a table while we put stickers on your arms, chest and legs and then attach clips to the stickers. This connects you to our computer. This test takes about 5 minutes and does not hurt. Girls wear a gown for this test and are not exposed.

Please do not use lotion on the day of your visit. The stickers will not stick!

X-rays are done by our X-ray technologist. She will take you to her X-ray room. You stand by the wall, next to the film. She will ask you to take a deep breath and then takes your X-ray picture. This test takes less than 5 minutes. Girls wear gowns during this test and are not exposed.

An echo, or echocardiogram is an unltrasound of your heart. Our echo technician uses warm gel on you chest and then uses a special microphone to get the images on their screen. You can watch with the echo tech or watch a video movie while this test is being done. Girls wear a gown for this test and are not exposed. Parents may be with you during this test.

The doctors will see you after some or all of these tests. He will need to talk with your parents about family history and with you about any symptoms you are experiencing. Nothing hurts here and
best of all there are no shots!

A letter will be sent to your primary doctor after your visit here, so they will know the results of this visit.

Boys and girls may want to wear shirts that open in the front with buttons for ease of exams and tests. Otherwise, gowns are offered for female patients.
