Home Monitoring Program
The Home Monitoring Program was created for infants with single ventricle heart disease between their first and second stage surgeries. The goal of this program is to provide families with tools necessary to evaluate oxygen saturations and weight gain in these fragile infants between cardiology clinic visits. Families are given an infant scale and pulse oximeter prior to discharge from the hospital and asked to monitor and record oxygen saturations and weight gain. Parameters for acceptable weight gain and oxygen saturations are provided. Home care nursing visits twice a week for the first two weeks and then once every other week assure the infant and family receives additional support and care. A cardiologist is available 24 hours a day in the event of a concern and will see these infants frequently during this interstage period. Home surveillance programs for this special patient population are considered to be the gold standard and are beneficial to improving survival rates for these infants.
