28th Annual Katkov-Lundeen Visiting Professorship in Pediatric Cardiology

Current Topics and Trends in Congenital Cardiovascular Surgery

Featured Speaker: 

 Pedro del Nido, M.D.

Pedro del Nido, M.D. is the Twenty-Eighth Katkov-Lundeen Visiting

Professor in Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery. Dr. del Nido is Chairman

of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Children’s Hospital in Boston,

Massachusetts. He is the William E. Ladd Professor of Child Surgery at

Harvard Medical School.

An internationally recognized leader in the field of congenital heart

surgery, Dr. del Nido is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Thoracic

and Cardiovascular Surgery, a member of the Board of Directors of the

Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and is active in research funding and

policy issues related to cardiac surgery at NIH/NHLBI. An active clinical

and basic science researcher as well as a busy clinical surgeon, Dr. del

Nido has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters,

and monographs. His primary areas of clinical interest are minimally

invasive and robotic surgery, surgery for borderline left heart structures,

and surgery for mitral valve disease.

Dr. del Nido will present didactic lecture sessions with ample opportunity

for discussion. Case presentations will be included in the program.

 

Professorship Objectives:

-Participants will be able to evaluate the robotic and hybrid approaches to repair CHD.

-Participants will be able to understand the role of 3-D echo and MRI in surgical planning and intra-operative use.

-Participants will be able to identify the current problems and future direction of an adult  CHD program.

-Participants will be able to recognize and diagnose congenital mitral valve stenosis.

-Participants will be able to manage the care of an adult with repaired Tetralogy.

-Participants will be able to describe the management of borderline left heart structures.
